Start of Something New

At my sista's wedding on Saturday, the best man said during his speech "tonight is where the fairytale ends" and i couldn't help but think "wtf??" .. I knew what he meant though - he was saying that in a hollywood movie/fairytale story, the guy and girl get married and they live happily ever after. The end. But different to those movies and stories, life does continue on afterwards, and it's not really an end, it's more the start of hopefully a long, loving marriage. And I really really really hope that (partly cos I dont want to have to go thru all this again with her .. next is Lauz and then that's it!) :p

I was up till 2am Friday night (er Sat morning) sewing for the wedding .. had to sew the beads and pearls back on my sista's straps as some were falling off, and I also wanted to make sure that they were all secure .. also had to shorten her hoop .. as a result, i told mum i was going to not go first in the morning with the hair and makeup, and was going to sleep in ..

I got the not going first wish, but didn't get the sleep in wish, as Lauz went first and mum woke me up to ask what she was meant to get done to her hair (as I was getting the same thing done) .. hehe i wasn't v helpful, and only after the hair/makeup person did my hair, i made her fix up Lauz's hair so it matched mine :p

Mum wouldn't stop panicing all morning ... all you could hear in the background was her asking where everything was, and running from room to room :p Carey was heaps calm though - i guess to make up for mum's paranoia :p

The weather looked really bad .. was raining heaps in the morning, then the sun came out for a bit, then it rained again ... When we left, it was raining, but as we approached the church, it wasn't really raining in that area and the sun was out :o)

hehe i'm such a grub .. I got makeup on my outfit and spent the whole car trip trying to wipe it off (it was only a small mark) but it made things worse :p hehe whoops :p

We arrived at the church (St Peters @ North Sydney) about 5 mins late - we rocked up in 2 really old (but nice) Jaguars - they didn't have much acceleration and were a pain in the butt to reverse .. the driver was heaps nice though :o) I was nervous the whole car trip - im not entirely sure why .. I guess cos we've been working towards this one day for over 9 months now, and it had finally come .. the car trip seemed so long! hehe apparently in teh other car, my sista kept nodding off :p hehe guess she wasn't really all that nervous :p

We stood at the back of the church and cos I was first down the aisle, everyone kept staring at me as I stood there waiting to walk to the front .. it felt really surreal :p Everyone told me to walk down the aisle slowly, but it felt like a really short walk (shorter than at rehearsals) so I was worried i'd walked too quickly .. but it didn't really matter, no one was there to see me, they all wanted to see Carey :p

I really wanted to sit down during the ceremony and almost did when the reverend said "all guests may be seated", but then realised he wasn't referring to the bridal party :p The bouquets were actually quite heavy to hold, esp with one hand for a long time .. they looked really lovely though, nice and bright :o)

And with that, they were married :o) The whole day flew! During the signing of the register, I saw Carey whisper something to Lauz, and then she was like "oh sh1t!" as she looked at her bouquet .. Apparently Carey told her there was a bee in it :p It turned out to be a fly, but Lauz was still kinda worried and Dave kinda knocked it out and it almost flew straight at Lauren's head :p hehe

After the ceremony, we handed out bubbles so ppl could blow them, as we stood outside for fotos and to mingle with guests .. Man, it was freezing! I was freezing the whole ceremony and it was even windier outside even though the sun was out .. It was funny watching Carey as her veil went flying vertically above her head :p

Fotos took FOREVER (it was made worse by the cold and windy conditions!) .. I'll upload the wedding fotos soon but here's just one foto of the beautiful couple:


The bridal party were then driven to the Rocks to have fotos taken .. we drove all around the rocks, just trying to find parking, but there were soo many other wedding parties around (lotsa ppl getting married that day - apparently Shannon Noll got married that day too!) getting their fotos taken .. we managed to find parking at Observatory Hill (i think that's what it's called?) and had to stand around in the freezing cold as Carey and Rob got heaps of fotos taken .. Lauren's hands literally went blue cos she was freezing (she has worse circulation than I do) .. We all ended up getting fotos taken, of us doing running shots, one of us running around the bridal couple etc ... It was a nice location and wasn't so windy (and the sun was half out too which was really nice) but it was still so cold - the wedding day was like 4 seasons in one day! My feet really hurt though afterwards, and running in my heels didn't help :o/

Lauren and i ended up running back to the car and sitting there whilst we waited for the rest of the fotos to be taken .. Unfortunately, the jag, being so old, didn't have a heater to warm us up :o/ The shawls we had didn't do much, but I'm glad I made the thicker ones from our dress material (the dressmaker made us some chiffon ones, which were thin as and also cost $60 each to make!) --> easy to make and free and offered a little bit of warmth that day :o)

We then moved to Tattersalls Club for canapes .. Man, we were soo hungry! Lauren and i were counting the maccas along the way (we saw about 3 from the rocks to the reception) and Dave was even going to get out of the car, buy some stuff for us, and then catch up with us along the road (there was a lot of traffic so it would have been doable :p) ... I was reading out restaurants to eat at , whilst Lauz actually read out some menu items which made us even more hungry!

The canapes tasted great! hehe prolly cos I was starving .. that, and it was oily food which I haven't been eating for a while cos of the wedding .. I was ready to stuff myself silly with food :p However, whilst I did plan to eat all 3 courses, I ended up getting really full during the entrees :p too many canapes I guess :p Lauz, Carey and I shared - they had scallops whilst I had a duck salad .. hmm was lush!

Mains were lamb or barrumundi .. when i got back to my seat, lauren had already eaten half of her fish and left me the other half .. she'd also eaten half of the salad from my lamb :p The lamb had waay too much pepper on it (am not allergic like mamo, but really dont like it) so i barely touched it .. Dave ended up finishing it for us :p The fish was really nice though :o)

And desserts .. *drools* --> mixture of wedding cake (awesome cake which Rob's mum made), some other nutty sweet things, nougat and our desserts - i had white chocolate mousse with dark chocolate sorbet (the sorbet was sooo good!) and lauz got the passionfruit creme brulee .. It's soo good that I got to sit next to Lauren - she'll never finish a whole main by herself, and I often have trouble too .. so it's good to be able to share our food :o)

When it came to the bridal waltz, Rob and Carey danced to Can't Help Falling In Love With You .. that's what Ferg + I/Dave + Lauz had practiced too, so we weren't sure if we were meant to join them .. we didn't, hoping we'd get out of dancing, but then after that song, the DJ announced that the bridal party/parents of the bride were to join the couple on the dance floor ... I can't remember what the song was we were stuck dancing to, but it was a 4 beat song and Ferg kept telling me to do a box (from the waltz) :p ah that was a disaster .. but Lauz and Dave were doing the same thing too - they managed to pull theirs off :p Dave's a really good dancer though (he'd had a mind block when he got on the floor and forgotten all we'd learnt, but at least he was dancing) .. I ended up stopping and made us try the 4 step dance we'd learnt but that didn't entirely work :p

They then played a faster song, and so we just side stepped instead to that and thankfully that was all over pretty quickly and we rushed off the dance floor :p It's really embarrassing, cos my cousin video cameraed it all with my dad's camera :p good thing the focus of the day was not on me + ferg and so I hope most ppl didn't notice our dodgy dancing :p

I didn't catch the bouquet which is good! Everyone in my family keeps trying to marry me off, and most said that it'll be my wedding they're coming up for next .. Except that Lauren's the next in line (it goes by age :p) and after this wedding, as lovely as it was, seeing all the behind the scenes bits (and being part of it), it seems like so much stress! It did all fall into place though, as Carey's mother in law said it would :o)

Carey and Rob left, and then we packed up and left .. Quite a few relos on my mum's side had come up from Melbourne for this wedding - i was disappointed they only stayed a day cos i would have liked to have talked to some of my cousins more ... it's amazing how we grow up so quickly ... My sista and her husband (it sounds weird saying that :p it's weirder saying he's my bro in law :p) were together for over 6 years before they tied the knot .. that's a really long time, yet it doesn't really feel it ...

Got home around 1am, feet absolutely aching .. May commented that my hair mustn't have had many bobby pins in it (it was quite a simple design as opposed to carey's which was up) but it probably had as many pins as her hair did (if not more) .. I spent about 5 mins just pulling out around 50 bobby pins :p

Woke up earlyish this morning, cos we were meant to meet relos for lunch before they flew back to melbourne but that was cancelled (thankfully!) .. Ended up napping for a v long time this arvo (we were all beat) before heading to the rugby final ... Man I dont like the bulldogs :p oh well, was a close match :o)

Tomoz arvo, we should be seeing my sista and husband for champagne .. I'm going to try to buy non alcoholic stuff to take :p Was funny at the wedding - i didn't have a drink to toast with, so i poured some water into my wine glass .. the waiter came around later whilst it was half filled with water and ended up topping it up with wine :p It actually tasted a bit more tolerable (i really dont like much alcohol :p)

Tuesday's my new start .. i start my role in my new team then, new building, just a new schedule all together ...

hmm if I remember anymore, or get around to uploading fotos, i'll post later :o) This is already a long enough post though :p
